# Software for Remote Access

Applications and programs commonly used to access the main computing server used by Computer Science Students. The primary server used for coursework is Delta ( delta.cs.uwindsor.ca ).

# Mobaxterm

MobaXterm is your **ultimate toolbox for remote computing**. In a single Windows application. It is an enhanced terminal for Windows with an X11 server, tabbed SSH client, and network tools. The free home edition is available at [Mobaxterm](https://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/download.html).

The free Mobaxterm Home Edition with full X server and SSH client is available for Windows.

The ***Installer*** is provided as a ZIP file; save it and open it. Extract all the files (\*.dat and \*.msi) into a directory. Go to the extraction sub-directory and run the MSI installer. Accept all the default settings.

#### X11 Forwarding

Use these settings:

- Set **Host** to an FQDN, for example **delta.cs.uwindsor.ca <span style="text-decoration: underline;"> or </span>(*electron.cs.uwindsor.ca*)**
- Set **Username** to your **UWinID** (all in lowercase characters)
- Set **Password** to your campus password
- Set **Port** to **22** (this is required if the host URL does not include the protocol prefix!)

Press the Quickconnect button to open a new SFTP file transfer session.

Open the Site Manager from the File menu.

Use these settings in the **General** tab:

- Set **Protocol** to **SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol**
- Set **Host** to an FQDN, for example **myweb.cs.uwindsor.ca**
- Set **Username** to your **UWinID** (all in lowercase characters)
- Set **Password** to your campus password

Use this setting in the **Transfer Settings** tab:

- Check **Limit number of simultaneous connections**
- You can set the Maximum number of connections to between 1 and 5. If this number is too high, the server may blacklist your IP for attempting to open too many sessions simultaneously.
