Mobaxterm

MobaXterm is your ultimate toolbox for remote computing. In a single Windows application. It is an enhanced terminal for Windows with an X11 server, tabbed SSH client, and network tools. The free home edition is available at Mobaxterm.

Installing Mobaxterm

The Installer is provided as a ZIP file, save it and open it.

Extract all the files (*.dat and *.msi) into a directory.

Go to the extraction sub-directory and run the MSI installer. Accept all the default settings.

SSH

Configuring a session to connect to cs.uwindsor.ca

Select Session

Select SSH in the Session settings window.MacOS

Use these settings:

  • Remote Host to cs.uwindsor.ca
  • Port will already be set to 22
  • Check Specify username and type in your UWinID.
    This is important! By default Mobaxterm will try to use the current Windows' username from your system instead of your UWinID.

Mobaxterm will save the session name in the form of the hostname concatenated with the username in parentheses.

By default, a Mobaxterm session will open two windows simultaneously, a terminal and a file transfer panel.

X11 Forwarding

Requisite X server is embedded!

Mobaxterm has an embedded X server with X11 forwarding enabled by default, so nothing else is required to run GUI applications.
